INDEX 00 — ABOUT

My name is Djik Ouchiian.
Just call me Jack.

I have been taking analog photographs for more than 30 years. Sometimes staged, often instinctive. This is not a portfolio in the classic sense. It is a collection of fragments from a life spent observing people, places and the moments in between.

For more than two decades, I have worked in advertising as a Creative Director for clients such as BMW, IKEA, Vodafone and Visa. There, images are often planned, refined and brought precisely to the point.

Here, things are more relaxed. I deliberately photograph on film. Not because it is nostalgic, but because it makes me look more slowly. Less control, more attention.

In a time when images are becoming increasingly smooth, digitally perfected, optimized and more often artificially generated, I am drawn to the opposite. The unplanned. The imperfect. The things that do not feel calculated.

I am interested in memory and closeness, but also in strangeness, melancholy and the beauty of everyday life. Sometimes in the quiet absurdity that appears when you look long enough.

I am not looking for perfect pictures. I am looking for moments that carry something within them. Something unfinished, real and fleeting. Not the flawless surface, but what remains felt.
